Pathways to Prosperity for Extremely Poor People (PPEPP)

HEED Bangladesh started PPEPP Project in 2020 in south corner of 4 Union of Dacope Upazila under the Khulna District and 3 Union of Mongla Upazila under the Bagerhat District. 8564 of direct beneficiaries and families already have benefited under the PPEPP project which are mostly extreme poor people. These people were having been undermine as a mostly bad afected due to the Global warming. People have now well organized with each other and the six component have close relationship and impact on these disadvantage people and these disadvantage people have organized by the different component of Livelihood, Nutrition, Health, Community mobilization, develop of market management, Policy advocacy and life cycle of grant piloting under the PPEPP Project. Disability, Disaster and Woman empowerment are the cross cutting issues of this project. HEED Bangladesh is working on that issues and contributing positive change of these people.

HEED Bangladesh have completed survey before identify the Working area (catchment area), Finalized the hardcore poor household, Project unit and sub-project unit installation. PVC have formed to organized the ultra-poor people and ultra-poor woman have especially engaged in PVC. Woman are developing their livelihood engaging in 201 PVC of the EU where 5911 are woman and 2653 woman in 65 PVC of the AFC. Many of woman have got success under the PVC and AFC. The project activities were hold for three months due to COVID-19 epidemic started during the implementing period of this project then after the project activities accomplished after the epidemic period. Masks and oxygen supplied in the community people and local Hospitals as a part of aware of the COVID-19 pandemic. HEED Bangladesh also Distributed cash money and Cattle’s by its own fund when Cyclone Asfalon and Yash was predicted in the working areas.

Dacope Upazila and Mongla Upazila under the Khulna and Bagherhat District are well known of Cyclone Front Areas from the very beginning of the past in the country. Community people already have disadvantage in the standard of Socio-economic due to the frequently predict of Disaster. Community people are mostly backward then others areas of the country that they cannot get facilities of health, education, income sources, over all woman and child nutrition facilities. Now it is undermining that PPEPP project is the mostly demandable and helpful project in the areas. PPEPP project have set the target among the extreme poor people to ensuring the food security, provide quality nutrition and ensuring sustainable agriculture within the year of 2030 which will ultimately contribute the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of one and two. Now it is thru that PPEPP Project is a one of the very much fruitful, time bound and public welfare project for the poor people of the coastal areas.

Cause Study: Md. Elias Fakir

Change his life by Cultivating Safe Organic Vegetable.

Poor Farmer Md. Elias Fakir said that- “Heed Bangladesh change my life and also the others poor farmers. Md. Elias lives in the village name Dupadi of Dacope Upazila under the Khulna District. He is a husband of Ferdus Begum and she is a one of the member of Prosperity Village committee name Babui and her household ID no is 140471744201901041. Md. Elias have a four family members and his economic condition was so worse situation and he was eating day by day. He was passed his family life with very hardly due to very low family income and he was no any goal of his life like others farmers. He was always hopeless and lead his family life with very low income of 4500 Taka per month. He was struggled to fulfill his family extra demand. He had a land of 15 percentages but he would had get less crops due to the lake of irrigation, lake of agricultural material and also Salinity.

HEED Bangladesh started survey before two years to form Prosperity Village committee (PVC) and Ferdus Begum was so lucky that she became a member of PVC committee and she has received two term loan and also payed the loan. One day Ferdus Begum and her husband Elias Fakir came into the HEED Bangladesh Dacope Office to know about activities of Prosperity Project and got information about Agriculture cultivation training, providing agriculture materials, financial support and also techniques and after getting this knowledge they were very pleased and expressed their interest to receive training. HEED Bangladesh Livelihood Technical Officer selected him of his much interest and his type of land formation to cultivate the high price safe vegetable. After that he has completed his training and showed his interest to cultivate high price safe vegetable and he also borrowed land of 10 percentages from others and then HEED Bangladesh have given IGA show plot on High price safe vegetable cultivation on the date of 19/01/2022.

He and her wife started to take care of his vegetable cultivation after getting IGA and also gathered knowledge of receiving training. He prepared plot with timely, controlled weed, cultivated seed, applied organic Fertilizers in the land, made bamboo loft and irrigate in the plot with proper way and HEED Bangladesh technical Officer always visited his plot and gave consult to him. He cultivated high yielding of eggplant, Korola. Dhundul and Bean. He sale vegetable of 40000 thousand Taka within three to four months. He uses Pheromone trap, Color trap, Biodegradable, Hand net to kill insect and preserve beneficial insects and also cleaning his land regularly. After doing this he did not use chemical fertilizers and increase vegetable quality, quantity, increase demand in the market and it is also environment friendly and reduced production cost. He is very much pleased to cultivate in this way and he also give consult others farmer. Few days ago he also borrowed land of 10 percentages of 25 percentage of paddy land to start fish cultivation and he also purchased second hand Rickshaw Van. He hopes that he can sale vegetable like this quantity what he sale vegetable now.

He can now lead his family daily expenses by income of Vegetable sale and also income of Rickshaw Van. He has a son and daughter and his son are studding in class six and his daughter are studding in nursery. He has a three cow and his wife Ferdus take care of the cows and two cow are pregnant now. Md Elias Fakir is very much pleased and grateful to HEED Bangladesh to give him better life and solvency.

c. Production of different hybrid grass & supply of cutting in beneficiary
level.
d. Vaccination campaigning
e. To give anti helminths within the beneficiaries.

a. Total lamb production this year: 18
b. Total sheep sale this year: 71
c. This year sheep sale value: 6,37,315 taka

At organization sheep farm level:

• Number of Lamb production in this year : 18
• Number of sheep sale in beneficiary level: 71
• Number of grass cutting supply in beneficiary level: 7250
• Total income of this year: 38,85,712 taka
• Total expenditure of this year : 54,80,254 taka
• Total net profit of this year: (-15,94,542) taka

At beneficiary level:

• Cumulative loan disbursement: 2,69,24,000 taka
• Cumulative loan Recovery: 1,94,01,349 taka
• Total loan outstanding : 75,22,651 taka
• Total sheep of beneficiary level: 3910
• Total sheep sale of beneficiary level: 811

Success story of Monmohini Roy

Monmohini Roy is a resident of a chording village of Tildanga union of Dacope upzila in Khulna district. Her family comprises one daughter and her Husband. Due to the financial incapacity of the family, she used to raise duck, cows and sheep.

Monmohini Roy is a member of Shimul Women’s Society of HEED Bangladesh Tildanga Branch. Under the PPEPP program of HEED Bangladesh Monmohini Roy was interested in rearing sheep after getting training on sheep rearing. With her indomitable will force she bought two Chhoto Nagpuri veriety of sheep from HEED Bangladesh sheep breeding farm. She started with five small indigenous sheep including two Chhoto Nagpuri sheep. The Technical Officer of HEED Bangladesh PPEPP project gave her anti helminthes tablet, vaccine and technical service for establishment of Monmohini’s sheep farm. Day by day Monmohini’s sheep farm increased in size. She sold seven sheep so far with a market value of 35,000/- taka. At present there are 14 more sheep in her farm. Her dream is to transform her farm into a large enterprise so that she can contribute to her own and near ones’ families. Her life style improved and she became a role model. Many families are doing the kind of sheep rearing inspired by her. She is really very thankful to HEED Bangladesh due to the training from where she was able to learn the rearing system and her economic condition being changed with lots of dreams aspirations.
