Leprosy Control Programme
The HEED Leprosy Progrmamme began in 1976, upon a request from the government of Bangladesh to bring Kalamganj Thana under Leprosy Control Programme. In 1978, leprosy survey, education and treatment were integrated into the programme. In 1980, the HEED Hospital was built and later on was expanded to a capacity of 40 beds for leprosy and 20 beds for TB patients. However, there are also 3 isolation beds. There are also male, female, a pre-op ward, a post-op ward and an isolation ward in it. The Surgical Theater and the Physiotherapy Department are also well-equipped.
Goal of the Program:
2015 and Beyond: Poverty Reductions through Strengthened Health System, Bangladesh, Project.
Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Hobigonj and Sunamgnj of Sylhet Division.
All the suspected and detected leprosy patients, their family member(s) and the treatment completed disable leprosy patients in the working area
Major Activities of the Program: There are four main activities under the Leprosy Control Programme.
- Case finding
- Treatment and Case Holding
- Prevention of Deformity
Geographical Coverage Area:
The programme is mainly implemented the tea and rubber garden and Punjis in the Sylhet Division. In the fiscal year of 2015-2016, the programme provided services to the people of the following areas.
